A Message from the West Central District Director Jerry Wheeler

NYSAFE is supporting NY STATE SENATE BILL #3286 AND NY STATE ASSEMBLY BILL #1475. THESE BILLS AMEND THE INSURANCE LAW, IN RELATION TO ESTABLISHING RESIDENTIAL HOME SAFETY AND LOSS PREVENTION COURSES AND PROVIDE FOR AN ASSOCIATED REDUCTION IN CERTAIN INSURANCE PREMIUMS . THE BILLS ARE SPONSORED BY SENATOR THOMAS O'MARA AND ASSEMBLYMAN WILLIAM COLTON. THE BILLS HAVE BEEN REFERRED TO THE INSURANCE COMMITTEE IN BOTH HOUSES. WE NEED TO CONTACT SENATOR JAMES SEWARD, CHAIRMAN OF THE SENATE INSURANCE COMMITTEE (172 STATE STREET ROOM 430, CAPITAL, ALBANY NY 12247/ 518-455-3131) AND ASSEMBLYMAN KEVIN CAHILL, CHAIRMAN OF THE ASSEMLY INSURANCE COMMITTEE (LOB 716, ALBANY, NY 12248/518455-4436 AND ENCOURAGE BOTH TO PUSH THE HOME SAFETY LEGISLATION THROUGH COMMITTEE AND ON TO THE FLOOR FOR A VOTE.

The Assembly has the Home Safety Legislation, Bill # 1237. We need EVERYONE to call Senator O'Mara's Albany office at 518-455-2091 and request he amend Senate Bill #3286 so it is the same as the Assembly Bill #1237 ( Change 3 year sunset clause to 5 year sunset) and get the revised bill to the Senate Insurance committee for a speeding committee aprroval. Then contact Senator Seward's office at 518-455-3131 and request the revised bill #3286 be approved by the insurnace committee and sent to the floor for a vote. 

The latest update for the HOME SAFETY LEGISLATION. As of 1/8/14, Assembly Bill #A1475A has been ordered to third reading. We hope the Assembly bill should have no problem being voted and passed as it was approved by a vote of 141/3 last year. The Senate Bill S3286A has been referred to the Insurance Committee where it died last year. PLEASE contact Senators O'Mara, Defrancisco and Ranzenhofer requesting they push this bill. Plus contact your local Senator requesting his/her support. ALSO contact Senator Seward requesting he move the bill out of committee. If you have any questions or get any feedback, PLEASE contact me.  PLEASE CONTACT THE FOLLOWING NYS SENATORS AND REQUEST THEY MOVE SENATE BILL 3286A OUT OF THE INSURANCE COMMITTEE AND ONTO THE SENATE FLOOR FOR A VOTE.
